Weaving with Noro

I've written in the past about how I am a little leery of Noro yarn.  When I first saw it, I didn't really understand the fascination.  I decided I should knit with it before drawing any conclusions and started these socks:

I began to understand the wonder of Noro yarn, but still wasn't ready to fill my stash wall with it.

When looking for ideas for weaving projects online, many of my favorites happened to be made with Noro yarn.  With as quick as weaving projects go, I figured I could try it out in a woven garment.  Despite being advised against it, I decided to warp my loom with Noro Sekku, a lace weight yarn.

Warping the loom was amazing.  Colors started unfolding before my eyes, I never knew what to expect next.

I started weaving- it clicked.  I finally understood the beauty of Noro yarn.

  7. ooh, that is stunning!! I know what you mean, I knit a shawl with Noro once, and wasn't to sure what the fuss was about until afterwards- I find that it gets softer and lovelier with wear. Your scarf is beautiful!

    1. there are looms in so many width...I've seen table looms as narrow as 12 inches, floor looms as narrow as 24 inches

    2. Harrisville Designs makes beautifully crafted looms. I have a 36" floor loom that folds up to less than 12" deep. Handy - you can unfold it as simply as unscrewing wing nuts on two screws.

  9. Gorgeous! I have felt the same about Noro. I even knit up a pair of socks with it and still didn't feel quite as enthusiastic as I wanted to. I made these and they turned out cute enough though:

  20. @anotheryarn
Just because you're not supposed to warp a loom with lace weight yarn. I ran into a couple of problems, but was able to figure things out :-)

  21. Really beautiful, I just got a new loom about a month ago, now I need to get some NORO. I've made the famous "stripe scarf" with noro. So I'm sure I'll love to weave with it.

  22. It's stunning! You are making me seriously jealous of your little loom and if I take up weaving I won't have nearly as much time to knit, lol.

  28. My husband just got me a Cricket as an early Christmas present! First a spinning wheel for my birthday and now a loom--is he trying to tell me something here? ;)

I know very little about weaving right now, but have been dying to try it for forever now. How much material did you use for this lovely noro scarf?

  30. I found a picture of your gorgeous scarf through Pinterest a few weeks ago and came to your post through that. I have always wanted to weave and put the loom on my Christmas list. I received the loom from my parents and am now addicted! I hope to try using the Noro yarn soon. Thank you for sharing the beauty of weaving!

  31. Hello..

Well like all of you, I too am blown away by this glorious colourful shawl/wrap/scarf.

As many of you have asked, I too would like to know what size of Loom would be best to begin with, and the type of Loom should we get.

Do you suggest we take a few classes to get started ?

I've always had a fascination for weaving. I'm sure it is seeing all the colours of yarn woven together.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful piece with us.

  34. How much yarn did this take? I have No ro left overs and would love to try one.

  35. Nice! I just finished weaving with Noro Nabori - I used it for the weft only. I had used it for the warp and about an inch in, it snapped, so started over again. Will try with Sekku - maybe it's a stronger yarn?
