A New Sweater

As if this little girl didn't already have enough hand knit sweaters, right?!

But, for Christmas,  we had to make something special.  This pattern was completely dreamed up in my head and it was fun to see it 'come to life' over the holidays.  It was a little complicated with all the colorwork and sizing- so things may have been "fudged" a bit, but it came together.  For that reason, I wouldn't count on a pattern coming out of this- my notes are mere scribbles, and my charts are hand drawn with multiple dark lines being drawn through.

I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to post. When I take a break, it's always hard to come back.  I feel I owe some sort of apology or really impressive post, but then I realize I just need to start up to get the ball rolling.  The holidays were grand, complete with much time visiting family and friends.

Unfortunately, Joe and I started 2012 off on the wrong foot, with a dreadful case of (what we believe to be) food poisoning.  I'm really not sure how we would have gotten through that situation without family nearby, but we have pulled through and finally seem to be on the other side of it.

I hope your holidays were wonderful and that you are now enjoying some selfish knitting- it is time for that, right?!

  1. Elise's sweater is adorable! When I knit for myself there is so much fudging that goes on, I really have to be in the "pattern writing" state of mind to do it properly. I love the dots all over the body of the sweater. great job!

  2. I heard there was an awful flu going around right around New Years. Sorry to hear you caught it!

I'm wondering how you got into pattern making? So far I'm a stick-to-the-pattern knitter but I'd like to start getting more creative. Were there small steps you took that lead to that creative work?

  3. Love love love the sweater. Thanks for showing us; but the most amazing thing is how much Elise has grown! Even though I have raised children it still astounds me how quickly they change. Enjoy every minute.

  13. Beautiful sweater - someday Elise will really appreciate her Mama's efforts! She is so adorable. We too battled a flu both before and after the holidays - though not on them, thank goodness. My knitting has gone back to basics for the moment - sweaters and mittens for granddaughter. Happy 2012, nice to see you back on the blog :)

  14. Hang on to those gorgeous handknits. She will pass them on to her children!

I am making your Frosted Glow cowl and it is coming out beautifully. I am using Perfection by Kraemer Yarns, a merino/acrylic blend. The color is Fairy Ring, a heathered light green. So pretty!

  15. Take heart, it probably wasn't food poisoning. My whole family got it, and we thought it was bad meatballs until we saw our illness featured on the national news. It was a virus.
