Although we were always suckers for anything with music, Anne of Green Gables always held a special place in ours hearts. Anne was an easy heroine to love- she came from nothing, was given a chance, and worked hard to accomplish her goals. And the icing on the cake? My middle name is Anne with an "e".
When Joanna Johnson (of the Phoebe book fame) first told me her plans of a book of knitting pattern inspired by the Anne of Green Gables series I was just giddy. So when this arrived in the mail, you can be sure I was beside myself:
As always, Joanna's aesthetic is just lovely. The way the book marries the pictures of the knits and the feel for the Anne books is perfect. Growing up I always wanted to be friends with Anne, attend her school, and be at those same summer outings. This book brings back those same familiar feelings.
Green Gables Knits contains 8 different patterns, my favorite being Anne's Sweater.
Oh- there's something about an over sized cardigan. It's funny how it's perfectly acceptable (at least in my mind) to wear the same slouchy cardigan day after day. That's what I think of when I see this pattern, it calls to me- it tells me that if I knit it, it would get plenty of use. Think of all the other knits I could knit whilst in it... I digress.
To check out the rest of the patterns from the book, head on over to Ravelry. After you do, share a comment below on what you would knit first if you had the book. Once you do, you have a chance of winning a signed copy from Joanna herself!
Annnnnnnd go... !
PS- you have until Friday, March 7th, 2014 at 11:59 EST. A winner will be chose then :-)

I really like Anne's sweater....so cozy.
ReplyDeleteI would really like to knit Anne's sweater. I really like it in that green colour!
ReplyDeletelike them all but especially Rachel's table runner and Anne - (with an E)'s carpet bag.
ReplyDeleteMiss Stacey's Shawl is so feminine. Love the lace....and how it could be slipped on for any occasion.
ReplyDeleteoh how fun, love them all
ReplyDeleteLOOOVE Anne's sweater! It's just right!
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you on Anne's sweater. I'm wearing something similar right now, and own a similar shape in at least 5 slouchy cardigans that get pretty constant wear.

I really love the apron. Such a unique project. Rav amchart
ReplyDeleteI love Marilla's Apron. What a cool thing to knit!

I love Gilbert's Scarf.. Something my John could wear very handsomely.
ReplyDeleteMy first choice would have to be Anne's sweater, second Gilbert's scarf!

I have ginger hair (lifetime sorrow) so I must start with Anne's sweather :)
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of this book! I would like to knit Anne's Carpet Bag.
ReplyDeleteMy first would definately be the the Anne's sweater. It really looks like the sweater you could live in all year round. Though the apron would be a close second.
ReplyDeleteGreen is a great color for the sweater, love at first sight!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'd got for Anne's sweater as my sister would look great in it and she's been hinting at wanting a sweater.

Definitely the table runner!
ReplyDeleteTough choice, but I would start with Anne's sweater. I've been looking for the perfect sweater to knit for myself and I love the style of this one! But it would be closely followed by Matthew's sweater and Gilbert's scarf, and the carpet bag!

I love Anne's Sweater but also Diana's Hat - and with my track record of sweater knitting I think Diana's Hat would be finished much faster... :-)
ReplyDeleteI would knit Matthew's Vest for my husband. I am always knitting things for others or myself, never for him.
ReplyDeleteAnne's Sweater is definitely my favorite, I would knit that in a few different colors and wear it every day.
ReplyDeleteI adore Anne's sweater.
ReplyDeleteLove Anne's Sweater!
ReplyDeleteAnne's Sweater would be my first knit, but Diana's hat is great also.
ReplyDeleteI would defiantly knit Anne's sweater and in that exact green colour I think. I have always loved Anne. When I was young I remember watching the TV mini Series on CBC and I still watch it probably every 5 years. I just love it. When I was about 13 I went to PEI and saw the house and was enthralled by it.
ReplyDeleteLove Anne's sweater and really need a perfect slouchy cardi, so I would start that first, but knowing myself, it's likely that I would start Diana's hat and Gilbert's scarf during the process! :) These patterns are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnne's sweater or Diana's hat.
ReplyDeleteOh everything!!! I also loved Anne growing up and have been eyeing that book!
ReplyDeleteI too love the cardigan. With three sisters in my family, we grew up with the Anne books and mini series. Now I have a feisty red head daughter that I will share the stories with too.

Hands down, the apron. It's hard sometimes. I feel like I enjoy TOO many things. I enjoy cooking, knitting (of course), reading, being a good wife and dog mom. Sometimes there's not enough time for me, and this would be a special reminder to make the time.
ReplyDeleteI would love to knit and wear Anne's sweater - so lovely.
ReplyDeleteDawn at dcwally@hotmail.com
While I love Anne's sweater, I think the table runner would be my first project.
ReplyDeleteI think first on my list would be Gilbert's scarf. <3
ReplyDeleteI can't think how many times I've read Anne of Green Gables!
ReplyDeleteThis book! The photography is amazing and the pieces immediately take me to the people in the story! I guess, I will knit, in order: Diana's Hat for my bosom friend's birthday, Gilbert's Scarf for my hubby's birthday and Anne's cardigan for myself with the perfectly long sleeves. But honestly, I even want to wear aprons just so I can knit Marilla's apron. Oh, I think I'm in love!

One word beautiful!! I would love to knit the sweater as well.
ReplyDeleteThe sweater, for sure!
ReplyDeletediann325@gmail.com
I love this! That sweater is amazing, but I think the first thing I would knit is Gilbert's Scarf. I want to make something for my husband, who won't wear sweaters, and I believe after the winter we have had, he will welcome a scarf!
ReplyDeleteI would knit a Gilbert's scarf and then try to find myself a Gilbert look a like to wrap it around;-)
ReplyDeleteI would love to make Anne's sweater. So practical and quietly lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteI bought yarn this knit myself a sweater but hadn't picked a pattern - until now! Anne's sweater is PERFECT!
ReplyDeleteTo start? Diana's hat. My mum's been looking for one just like that. (BTW, my middle name is Ann -- but without the "e" I felt very hard done by during my Anne of Green Gables years.)
ReplyDeleteMy Anne has an e! I think I would start with the apron. I'm on a dishcloth kick, right now, and I think this would be great knit up in a linen blend.
ReplyDeleteI'm crazy about Anne's Sweater! I would definitely knit that first :)
ReplyDeletebean1082@gmail.com
How can I pick!! AAH! It is a toss up between Marilla's Apron and Rachel's Table runner! but.. oooh Diana's hat is so nice! you pick for me because I can't!!

ReplyDeleteI would knit the sweater too!!
ReplyDeleteMarilla's Apron
ReplyDeleteI will certainly knit Rachel's Table Runner. My dining room table is just crying for it.
ReplyDeleteI love the Diana hat :)
ReplyDeleteAnne's sweater is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteMy first would be Anne's sweater. I love the length and the simplicity.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd end up knitting all the patterns at some point but would probably start with Diana's hat. Love it!
ReplyDeleteRav: meditativerose
Diana's hat and Matthew's vest, probably. Love it!

ReplyDeleteI would choose Mathew's vest - it's a classic. I love it. I also think Diana's hat would be on my needles in no time. Gosh the photography is well thought out! It takes me right back to the PBS series. Rav ID Triple7tahoe
ReplyDeleteMathew's vest, I think. Honestly, I would want to make most of the patterns at once!
ReplyDeleteOoh, it's so hard to choose! It's a toss up between the carpet bag & the apron. Hmm, maybe I'd make the carpet bag first & use it as project bag for when I'm knitting the rest of the patterns!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful book and patterns! Would have to make Anne sweater first!!
ReplyDeleteI'd start with Gilberts scarf.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Anne's Sweater!
ReplyDeleteWhat a marvellous book! I'd knit Gilbert's scarf first, for the man of my own dreams. Anne's sweater is gorgeous, and I love Diana's hat. Marilla's apron would make a smart cushion cover for a modern gal... Choices, choices!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love Anne of Green Gables! I would knit either Diana's hat or Matthew's vest...followed promptly by Anne's sweater :).
ReplyDeletei would make Ms Stacys Shawl first
ReplyDeleteuclangel422 at yahoo dot com
I just love Marilla's apron and Diana's hat. I would probably make the hat first for instant gratification!
ReplyDeleteAnne's Sweater is lovely.
ReplyDeleteGilbert's scarf!
ReplyDeleteLove Anne's sweater!

Oh, do I have to pick just one? Diana's hat is lovely! Those photos brought back such good memories… I loved the Anne movies. :) Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteIn the fall of 2010, my mother, my oldest and youngest daughter, my husband and I visited P.E.Island, stop during a cruise we took - Perfect memories. Gilbert's scarf would be my favorite, for some reason scarves are what I'm knitting just now.
ReplyDeleteI have been to PEI several times and a visit to Green Gables is always on the "to do" list. Therefore, I would most want to visit in Anne's sweater.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Green Gables and the patterns are all wonderful. It is hard to choose just one! But, I'm really drawn to the carpet bag.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Anne's Sweater. It is perfection!
ReplyDeleteI would knit Matthew's vest, although I'm not sure who I would knit it for. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt would be a coin-toss between Anne's Sweater and Marilla's Apron. All of the patterns are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love Anne of Green Gables! The sweater is gorgeous.

I love Marilla's Apron. I would knit that first and love wearing it!
ReplyDeleteRav- LakeviewChica
First would be Miss Stacy's Shawl, which looks like a wardrobe stretcher for sure. Next up would be Matthew's Vest; I'm keen on layering pieces.
ReplyDeleteAnnBan on Ravelry
First would be Anne's sweater. Knit a bit shorter because the length shown is not flattering on me.
ReplyDeleteoooh! Im going straight for the cardigan!! And that green is *divine*!!!
ReplyDeleteI too would knit the Anne's Sweater! It looks perfect to cozy up to with a hot cup of coffee.
ReplyDeleteOoohhhh ... Rachel's table runner is a must knit! Love all the patterns!
ReplyDeleteAnne's Sweater!!! Love, love the slouchy cardigan. I have store-bought black and grey ones that I wear ALL winter long. How great to make my own in my more lively color.
ReplyDeleteAnne's Carpet Bag (for fun), Matthew's Vest (for my Dad), Gilbert's Scarf (for my husband) and then Anne's Sweater for me!!
