An Easter Sweater

I have a secret.  A new obsession that seems to be taking over my internet perusing hours.  But this new obsession is actually an old obsession rediscovered.  That's right- I've been stalking Etsy once again.

These days I seem to be searching for something a little different though- vintage baby clothes.  I snagged this beauty last week:

I just love the attention to detail-

Just look at those perfectly precious pleats!

This dress has a date with my daughter for Easter- I can't wait to try it on her.  The problem is this.  Although Easter happens to be super late this year, the weather in Michigan is looking a little bleak.  It's true- waking up to snow this morning was enough to send me into mild depression (and I hear we have another day of it tomorrow?!?).

So, this short-sleeved beauty needs an equally special cardigan.  The problem?  Easter is, oh, five days away and I have yet to start. I have always had my eye on Lucille by Courtney Kelley but I am open to other suggestions.

I know I will make Lucille at some point, but I wanted to ask you what your favorite baby cardigans were.   Elise could probably use a couple girly cardigans to throw over things in the coming months.  So, let's have them- favorite baby cardigans.  Leave it in the comments!

  2. The mossy jacket, from F. Pea! I knit two of them in a week, no joke. They're perfect. Here's the (free) pattern: http://fpea.blogspot.com/2007/01/free-pattern-friday-mossy-jacket.html

I've had Lucille bookmarked for months, so I can't wait to see how yours turns out!

  7. I like Erika Knight's Garter Stitch Cardigan. I am knitting it for a friends new baby. So simple and it wouldn't detract from the lovely dress. imho

  11. I made this one in a few weeks by omitting the seams http://ravel.me/compofwool/ujmcn

It's simple and understated, which lets the dress underneath stand out!

Btw, love the dress, vintage baby clothes are wonderful!

  13. Even though I have no children, don't plan of having children any time soon, and don't know anyone with children, I still have a frightening amount of baby cuties in my queue.

I really love the Clara dress, which may only be available in a kit. But, if you can find it, it's super cute: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/clara-3

I also love the Ella Funt cardigan: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ella-funt

Luckily everyone in my boyfriend's family appears to be getting knocked up :) There may be some baby knitting in my future afterall.

  15. I made the Lucille cardigan last month. I LOVE the pattern and it's very fun to knit. I used Knit Picks Pallette and 3 skeins are plenty. The small needles and thin yarn make for a longer project, though. So perhaps that should be a post-Easter project! :-)

  21. Sorry I can't help with any suggestions...just thought I would comment that my little daughter wore dresses like that back in the 50's. I especially loved the smocked fronts. Your baby will look so cute in this little dress.
I think a shrug would be sweet.

  22. The Whirligig Shrug was the cutest Knit. I just made one from some plucky lite, for my new niece who isn't here yet. Now I'm going to make another for her Big Sister. In the Classic Sarah named SISTERS!

  24. Baby Sweater on Two Needles from the Knitters Almanac.

    Or

    The classic Baby Surprise Jacket.

Both work up super fast and would be ideal if there's still snow on the ground.

  25. Hello--I just found your blog via a link on Spilly Jane's blog and I'm so happy to have found it. I whole-heartedly agree with your assessment of Easter dresses and living in Michigan! We live in Marquette county and we're "blessed" with 4 fresh inches of snow the day before Easter, which melted to slush for Sunday's church egg hunt. Thankfully my mom had knit up a great sweater for my 2-yr-old daughter, because goodness knows, I didn't have time!
