While millions of people head to the stores on Black Friday in search of the greatest deals on the newest electronics and trendiest toys, I tend to spend the day at home. There have been years in the past that I may have gotten up in the wee hours of the morning for some 'amazing' gift bag that only a few chosen shoppers receive, but those days are long gone. I value sleep over shopping any day. Plus, with laptop in hand, I can do all the shopping I need to do in the comfort of my own home!
And this year, just like years in the past, I avoided the crowds...until I saw the JoAnn's circular. With slipper season at its peak, I seem to be running out of buttons faster than I can sew them on.
I have been waiting for a couple months for the buttons to go on sale at JoAnn's, and they finally did. Fortunately, I didn't have to fight the crowds on Friday, the sale was going on all weekend. Not only were buttons half off, but there was also a coupon for 20% off my entire order(even sale items...exciting, I know!). So, what normally would have come out to over $500 in buttons($500!?!) ended up costing me around $200. Don't worry, I got a TON of buttons- my receipt is taller than me(by a good amount, too). And without further ado, I present the buttons:
If you want a closer look, click on the picture itself and it will open in a new window. I have at least a few of all the buttons pictured and they are currently all available for slippers. I have quite a few favorites in this new batch... which ones are yours?

I felted my slippers yesterday but have to find buttons yet. I will have to try Jo-Ann's.
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty! I think my favorites are the second from the bottom on the far left-hand side, or maybe the second from the top on the right...I don't know, they are all lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love Joann's buttons! That's where I get all of mine too! :)
ReplyDeleteI have found huge jars of buttons at second hand shops...and consignment stores...and I have inherited some...I think I might have a button obsession...smiles...
ReplyDeleteVery pretty -- thanks for sharing! I still love the look of the vintage leather knot, though =)
ReplyDeleteOh...button jars are where I found my leather knot buttons originally- a big jar of leather buttons, what fun!
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are still the vintage leather knot buttons as well- maybe it's because it was the original design, I don't know, I just love the look. I am currently designing a few new pieces with a similar aesthetic!
The green on green buttons at the top are my favorite! I'v been eyeing them at Jo-anns for a while. I'm so happy you got such a deal!
ReplyDeletei would love to see that receipt.
ReplyDeleteexactly how long did this AWESOME photo collage of buttons take you? it is fantastic.
yellow pair
or second from the bottom on the left column.
good job on the steal.
I had no idea Joanne's had such fantastic buttons! I cant choose a favourite they're all fab. Just downloaded your patterns from Ravelry, cant wait to get started!!
ReplyDeleteThe green ones in middle of the fifth row are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThose buttons are lovely. I love buttons. When I was a little girl, my mom would give me her button jar and it would keep me busy for hours. I was in heaven when I went to Toronto a few years back and found a whole button store. (I have many buttons now.)
ReplyDeleteI therefore ask, with some trepidation, is JoAnn's an on-line store? Do you have a link?
Oh my gosh! Ilove it. I guess I shouldn't be so surprised at all your button choices :) I am going to have to get some of these considering the # of prs of slippers I am now committed to making :)
ReplyDeleteSox- just the big box Joann Fabric and Craft Store. Because they have such a huge selection, I can usually find something I like! http://www.joann.com
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that you wrote about the button sale--Right before Thankgiving, I had bought your slipper pattern via Ravelry and went to the early AM Black Friday sale to get Paton's Classic and buttons myself for three pairs I'm gifting...although not $500-worth of buttons. Would be fun, though! And what a thrill to see that 50% and extra 20% coming off the total...
ReplyDeleteI love the Lilac Color with the black button! (it's the first on the grid!)
ReplyDeleteI also became a fan of the facebook for a different entry

I absolutely LOVE your color wheel of slippers!!! That is so impressive. My favorite are the greens...mossy or sage with a brown button.
ReplyDeleteAdorable slippers and great buttons.Love all colors, favorite: heathered oatmeal and lilac. I used to be a button buyer for a LYS. I would love to win your slippers, but of course, I am going to buy the pattern. They are a true inspiration to get me knitting again!!!

I just started reading you blog today and was looking back through it. Our LYS sells the buttons that are in the farthest left row...second from the bottom. I put them on a felted purse and they are super cute, however I have a friend who makes rings out of buttons and I bought one and had her make me a ring...I was actually wearing it today. I LOVE IT! It goes with a ton! Something to think about with all your buttons :-)
