But Everyone Else is Doing It...

If 'everyone else' decided to jump off the top of the Empire State Building would I do it too? No. But how can I resist the Ishbel Shawl from Ysolda that everybody and their mother has made?! I know by now, most of my readers have seen this shawl as it is hard not to come across it on Ravelry, but I am still super excited to share my progress.

I cast on for this shawl last week in attempts to keeping up the 'knitting for myself everyday' resolution that I made last month. Believe it or not, after I finished my Girasole blanket I had to quit the resolution. I'm not really the kind of person who has many projects going at one time. In fact, I get so focused on the project that I forget about everything else in life until I am finished.

For a few weeks in February, when I should have been working on some new designs, I was solely working on the blanket. Since I finished, I have been typing up patterns, contacting test knitters, and re-knitting my designs myself.

So, with this project, it is my new resolution to not let it take over my life. I'm practicing moderation...we'll see how that goes.

  2. Good luck with that moderation; I know what it feels like when a new project overtakes my common sense!

  3. Moderation? I don't know if we know the definition. I thought life's about all or nothing? Hmmm...maybe I should practice moderation as well. Anyway, the shawl looks lovely!

  7. No matter how many Ishbel we will see, they will all be different and beautiful! The yarn for yours is gorgeous! It will be beautiful! And what a great alternative to jumping off the ESB ;-)

  8. Moderation is an excellent thing. I'm so the obsessive type. But I think that that is exactly what I enjoy so much about knitting. It doesn't require large chucks of time devoted especially to a project to make progress. I don't have to be obsessive, which is exhausting. In fact, if I keep picking it up when I have a few minutes, and feeling free to put it down again, when a higher priority calls, I'm a much calmer person because of knitting.

  9. I do the same thing - I try to have more than one project going at a time, but it never works. So I stick to my single-task knitting abiliies! Love the yarn you are useing for your Ishbel!

  10. This is going to be (and already looks) great! What kind of yarn is it? I hope you are better able to employ moderation this time, I know what you mean about getting completely absorbed in one project :)

  11. On a belated note, I just found your blog, and since you're a hip young knitter/designer, I offer myself as a test knitter. If you're ever running short. Moving to East Lansing in 8 weeks too... yay for the state of Michigan!
