Darn That Sock!

Well, at least the second one. Last week I was traveling for work and decided it would be the perfect opportunity to make my first pair of socks (I know, I know... it's about time). I wanted to do the socks at the same time on circular needles, but it turned out that I did not have the adequate needles.

With a skein of Colinette Jitterbug and 4 double pointed needles in hand, it was safe to head to the airport.

The socks started for myself. I began at the toe, and when I tried them on, they were a bit loose. I'm not a fan of loosy-goosy socks, so they quickly turned into a gift for Joe. Even though I was in meetings all week, and had very limited time, I managed to finish the first sock the evening I arrived at home.

This week I have a little more free time, and guess what I can't seem to finish? If only I could have done both socks at the same time. I'm sure I would have paid top dollar for size 1 circular needles the night before I left for my trip...

Moral of the story? All airports should have yarn shops!

  1. Here, here! I second that motion!
When I finished my first sock I was soooo proud of myself and showed the sock to one of my sisters..."see my first sock!" to which my sister promptly said "great, now all you have to do is find an amputee to give the sock to"...darn her, I still haven't made the second sock...and it has been a couple of years!!!!

  2. If not yarn shops at every airport, at least some supply of needles and other notions right there by the other essentials. :)

  3. Oh yes, yarn shops in every airport would be brilliant!

If it makes you feel any better, I started a pair of socks last year and they are still on the needles, haha.

  9. What a brilliant idea - wonder what the rent would be to rent a space in an airport?

    Hmmmmm. . .
    Socks are a lovely color!

  12. Yarn Shops in airports… I think you are onto something there!

I know… I'm about 75% done with my second sock - just can't seem to get it done. Yours do look great!

  13. the only reason i finished my first pair was because they were for stephanie and she has size 5 feet. i doubt i'll ever make a man sized pair for me.

  14. I also have never made a pair of socks before and I was thinking over the weekend that it was time for me to make socks. Luckily, I have small feet and they will probably knit up faster then men sized socks.

Any suggestions for a fun sock pattern? (I am a fairly experienced knitter just never done socks so the pattern doesn't have to be a beginner pattern)
