Have you ever seen the Pottery Barn Bedford Project Table?
I have always considered it an ideal workspace, but the price tag plus added shipping always stops me from purchasing. It seems others have the same issues as I do as I have found many other ideas for a similar table that people have suggested.
Here's one for $549 from AVthinginitsplace.com:
As for me, I will be trying to rig up somthing similar using cabinitry from Ikea. I'm trying to make final decisions now, and will hopefully be ordering by the end of the week.
How about you, what is your ideal workspace? Where do you currently do most of your artsy/crafty work?
Ooooh lucky girl! I can't wait to plan out a real workspace for myself. Right now I'm stuck in the corner of our bedroom.
ReplyDeleteBut I will say--I have an ikea expedit cube on my wall and it has helped a great deal in organization!

ReplyDeleteI love that table! Right now I have two work surfaces in my craft room - a larger 50s formica table and a smaller 30s enamel top table. Both somehow always end up covered in stuff! I have a few shelving units that I use for storage, but things always seem to migrate to the tables. I would love a big open craft room with an enormous table in the middle for cutting fabric!
ReplyDeletemy husband is pretty handy. We purchased some "wood" 2 drawer file cabinets and he constructed a table top for my sewing machines. The file cabinets hold all my sewing notions, thread, bobbins, and misc small items. It works and can be removed if we need to turn my sewing room back into a bedroom.
ReplyDeleteYour recent comments really got me thinking about my ideal workspace! I would like somewhere sunny and quiet, with a comfy chair to knit in and a high table for finishing. And good music, of course!
ReplyDeleteLove the table! I envy your craft room! I am unfortunately still working out of my bedroom. I am slowly making my way towards having my own craft room.
ReplyDeleteI actually think I like the way the make it yourself table the best!
i got an old wooden drafting table from my boss and i lug it around wherever i move. it is huge, light, and comes apart. the top even slants and there plenty of room underneath to store totes and organizers. check with an old mapping or surveying business and see if they want to get rid of any. they aren't really in use anymore and are usually just collecting dust in a room.
ReplyDeleteI do most of my work in my bedroom or at work..haha
ReplyDeleteWow, I love the idea of a table like that in the middle of a space instead of a table up against a wall like I have it. I currently work/sew on a 6' folding table that is tucked away in the living room behind the couch. In a 950 sq ft loft, my space is limited, but it works out for now. I can't wait until I have space to plan a craft room. Enjoy!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that table too! Having a table in the middle of the room is a fabulous idea, in my opinion. It allows for more work space and the ability to spread out.
ReplyDeleteRight now, my hubby and I are still finishing the remodeling of the interior of our home, but I plan on building a little studio out on my property sometime in the near future for my crafting. I like this one: http://www.summerwood.com/images/gallery/1479
I love, love, that you're d-i-ying your work space! As much as that PB table makes me swoon, the prices makes me sick. Can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeletePS. You know the flimsy carboard backs? What about using some lovely paper on them to give them some oomph before you attach them?
I've always loved that PB table. But too $$$ for me. I do love the option you posted for a dyi table - I actually have 2 of those cubes from Target already - should buy 2 more and make my own. Thanks for the links!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were building our house, I had the kitchen cabinet men build an entire will of cabinets with a knee hole along my wall of windows. Because I sew a lot and use the computer a lot, they put a hole in the top (back away from the edge and work area) for the cords to go down to the plug. I would take a picture, but today it really is a work space and not very photogenic.
ReplyDelete~Sewbeads (I'm the one who keeps on commenting about the importance of light and a comfortable chair ;)
What a fabulous idea! My mother gets the Pottery Barn catalog and I tend to peruse them when I visit. And you're right, the price tags are something else. I like the idea of using the Ikea cabinet/drawer things. I would love to try something similar, and with cats around who like to climb into small spaces...doors and drawers would be a great idea!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your new craft space!
My studio is in our unfinished basement. I dream of the day when I can get everything organized and work on art all day. But alas, I love my real job and with two little ones (1yr and 4 yrs) it will be quite awhile until I can endulge in a day of fiber. I did a blog post on my studio a few years ago and not much has changed...http://in-the-fold.blogspot.com/2007/11/my-studio.html oh the possibilities
ReplyDeleteYou are really lucky to get such a nice studio. Mine is in the basement - bad light - shared with my 9-year-old (we use a large book shelf as a divider of the room). Not ideal - like yours - but better than nothing I guess.
ReplyDeletePs. Melynda, I left you a little something on the blog today. xo.
ReplyDeleteMy work table has a base of kitchen cabinets with a flush interior door (no doorknob hole) as the top. I covered the back of the cabinets with pegboard and that side faces my sewing machines with the tools I use most often hanging right where I need them. The top is covered with a cutting board and the leftover end with ironing fabric. The pull light above was converted to an outlet and the iron plugs in there. Love it!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how it turns out...what a great space for a craft room.
ReplyDeleteHOLY AMAZING! I actually had never seen this work space before, but I agree that it would be the perfect piece of furniture to add to DIY household. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI just did a post about my workspace. It's a little desk pushed into a corner of my dorm. definitely not ideal, but it works nicely. good luck getting yours put together
