But not quite. Do you ever hit a road block on a project that just takes away all your drive to see it through to completion? Classic scenario for me. Last week, when I was finishing my Legacy Wrap, I ran out of yarn.
How much yarn do I need? Oh, about 8 more rows worth- what a bummer.
Because I was a little too anxious to see my finished wrap all blocked and beautiful, I decided to cast off where I was and come back to it. Hmm- not sure if that was a good idea or bad. So, although I have worn it out a couple times (pictures coming soon), I now have to decide if it is worth it to go purchase another skein of yarn , rip out my bind off, pick up all those loose stitches, and knit a few rows of garter
stitch. Thoughts? What would you do in the given situation?
I'm lazy so in that given situation, I continue to wear it incomplete ;) It's beautiful, either way!
ReplyDeleteI would just leave it! It looks great, and while you're wearing it, people probably won't notice the missing garter stitch. The only reason I could see for getting another skein is if it's driving you crazy to know that the border is short on one side.
ReplyDeleteIf it were me, my inherent cheapness would win out over a compulsion to follow the pattern exactly. However, I'm also a big fan of symmetry. So I'd probably rip out the *cast on* edge, lose a few rows there, and then bind it off so the two ends match :-)
ReplyDeleteI would just leave it the way it is, no one will ever notice that one side is a few rows shorter. great colour!
ReplyDeleteIf it were me, I'd leave it. But I know that for some knitters, it would bug them too much! Do what makes you happy!
ReplyDeleteRIP IT!! it will bother you if several years down the line it still isn't fixed. Plus, don't you want to be an example for your daughter? Finishing what you started and all that? Plus, it might make it's way into being an heirloom. Don't make it an unfinished one!
ReplyDeleteBuy more yarn - or even it up as kateohkatie suggests
ReplyDeleteI say leave it as is! That edge still looks finished, and it looks fine asymmetrical.
ReplyDeleteIf you like the length, leave it; if it feels a little off, buy the skein and do it!
ReplyDeleteI'd just leave it. I have 2 projects that the yardage was wrong and I ran out just a row and finishing. I made it work and well, nobody knows it's not supposed to be that way. I say leave it.
ReplyDeleteBuy the yarn and finish it, then use the remainder to knit a matching beret, gloves, or accessory of your liking.
ReplyDeleteyou know, i'd probably leave it. it's beautiful the way it is, and as TFA says, no one will really notice the missing 8 rows. besides, it makes for a great story! it's also a testament that we knitters adapt ;) beautiful job! i love it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! If you're comfortable with it, I would just leave it. But if you think it'll bug you, and you'll stop wearing it because of it, I would pick up more yarn. You can always look on ravelry and see if anyone has any extra in your color/dye lot that they're willing to part with. Most people do end up with a little extra at the end of their project!
ReplyDeleteI'd rip back ~8 rows worth, re-do the eyelet row, and just end the main body a wee bit sooner.
ReplyDeleteYour shawl looks so pretty as is but if it will continue to nag at you, I would buy another skein, frog it back, and complete it as intended. If you are happily enjoying this beauty, then I'd say don't look back! How's that for offering side-by-side answers? : )
ReplyDeleteIf you could end up thinking about the missing rows every time you look at the wrap, I would say just bite the bullet and finish it. That's what I would have to do. But if you are one of the lucky ones who can just forget it and move on with your life, good on you!
ReplyDeleteAaaaand I just realized that's what Evelyn said just before me. :-)
It's absolutely beautiful - but will it always bother you when you wear it - knowing you didn't completely finish it as you had hoped/planned? I would definitely have to rip it - then I could give it the love it's so deserving of - and not have to listen to the "nagging" little voice in my head reminding me that there was more knitting to do. But if you can move on and love it - go for it! So much yarn...so little time!
ReplyDeleteRip it good! (says she who frogged her citron becos she knitted the ruffle in a contrasting yarn and it bled all over the rest of the shawl. :/ )
ReplyDeleteJust Do It. Won't you fell great afterward?
ReplyDeleteYou could sew some of that beaded fringe on that end. Just to make it different.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great. But, as others have commented, if it bothers you spend the time to re-do.
ReplyDeleteWill the pattern be released soon (not as a kit)?
Hmm, well I'm totally lazy, so I would probably just leave it as is. Plus, imperfections prove it's hand made! (At least that's what I tell myself in similar situations.) But if it's going to drive you crazy, I'd get the other skein.
