More Than I Bargained For

When you knit in public, do you often have people come up to you and say things like, "I wish I could learn to knit, I just don't have the patience."?

As a knitter talking to non-knitters, it's the thing I hear the most.  Ironically, I usually follow with a response something like this,  "I'm probably the least patient person you will ever meet in your lifetime.  This is the reason I must knit."

Never has this been so true as in the past week as I patiently wait for baby number two.  Since Elise was a few days early, I never expected to make it to my due date.  When I did, I was astounded.  Now, almost a whole week later, I sit thinking that this baby will never actually come out.

The answer to all my problems?  Just cast on another day-long project.  Maybe a little something like this:

Joe was teasing me the other night because he swears I am working on a new project every time he looks at me.  There is probably some truth to that statement.

So, for those who were expecting a baby post, sorry to disappoint- at least when this baby arrives it will have more hand knits than we originally bargained for!

  1. Oh, I wish I had been a knitter when I was pregnant with my babies. I am hoping that the baby makes an appearance any minute now. Waiting is not fun.

  2. LOL and the last time I heard from you there weren't any made yet for this new arrival. You cloth diapering? Cute soakers. I'm clothing but that is because we can't afford disposables at the moment. Thankfully my 2 year old is only in diapers when we leave the house for more than an hour. Other than that he keeps clean and dry. I can't wait to hear the news when you having this baby if it is a boy or a girl!

  3. I had one "on time", one "early", and two "late". The last week or so when I was waiting for the "late" babies I knit a ridiculous amount of baby stuff. :-)

  4. That's an excellent way to look at it! I'm not a patient person either. I knit because I get super bored sitting still. I feel like I constantly need to keep my brain active. I'll remember that the next time someone makes a comment like that. Good luck with baby!

  6. I'm thinking about you! My SIL was due today, switched docs and due date was moved to 8/10. She's still waiting... and hates the idea that the first doc was more accurate. Mine were 8 days late, 7 days late, 12 days early, 7 days late, and 4 days early, but they all weighed within half a pound of each other. I think when it got crowded in there, they came out! Hang in there!!!

  7. Waiting is HARD. But I think, if you cast on something BIG, like a baby coat that will take ages...I think that will make Baby French Press decide now is the time to be born. It's baby-knitting psychology.

  8. I think waiting would be the hardest part. You can do it! Mine were both premies so I envy you. Laura is right, cast on something big the baby-knitting psychology will take over. Good Luck!!

  10. So hard waiting on those babies! My first was two weeks late, and I had to be induced. He was very, very comfortable in there :)

  12. I was 10 days late! My mom says people would ask her when she was due, then take a step back when they found out she was past due, haha. Hope you don't have to wait too long!

  15. Oh I sympathize. My first was 10 days early and the second was late. I remember the feeling of impatience. This too shall pass - literally. :) All my best.

  16. oh, any day now! Glad the knitting is keeping you busy, your new little one will be there before you know it! Small consolation when you're at the 'I'm dne now' stage of pregnancy.

  18. Sounds like it's going to be one well-dressed baby. I guess all of the waiting time would have been much worse if you weren't a knitter. Good luck with everything and I hope baby doesn't keep you waiting too long. :)

  19. It sounds like Baby #2 is letting you know, right from the very beginning, that he/she is his/her own individual and will not be compared with the firstborn! Either that or is holding out for more hand knits! ;-) Thinking of you and hoping all goes well

  20. Don't you love it when your husband/partner has worked you out
and when it is time to admit that yes, you probably do have so
many projects done one after another. I have admitted to being
a compulsive knitter and I'm just honest about it now!!! lol.
What a great hobby, knitting rules!!!
    Cheers, Anita.

  22. I get that a lot, followed by "Can you teach me?"
<--not a patient person, trust me, you do not want me to try to teach you!
