Christmas Hats

The name of this post was supposed to be "Christmas Sweaters Hats" but I can't seem to get the strike through going in my title.  You see, I had the best of intentions when I set out to make Sam and Elise some fabulous Christmas sweaters (just like in years past), and I even got off to a great start.

But somehow, with family coming in, and Christmas fast approaching, I quickly lost steam.

Coming fresh off of Sam's Christmas Stocking- I was feeling a little inspired (or maybe just thrifty).  I took my stocking leftovers and made a little hat.  And for his sister?  Her own hat inspired by her Christmas stocking as well.

The hets have been getting tons of wear, well worth the couple hours spent knitting them.

But the best part about Christmas Hats?  More stress-free time for Mommy- doesn't get any better than that!

  2. those hats are perfection! Is there anything better than seeing the kids you love in handknit things? I think not! The white sweater on the top look a lot like one I knit for my little one coming in April! Nothing like a white cable sweater.

  3. I wouldn't be too hard on yourself about making matching sweaters every year for your wee ones. They're not going to remember that the sweater they're wearing was made by their mother; they're going to remember waking up Christmas morning and the excitement and seeing their loved ones. So personally I'd stick to what you did: a small knit item for both of them each year. If that item happens to be a sweater, great! If not, don't stress yourself out about it at that time of year. I think you made an excellent choice with those darling hats!

  4. It's ALL about the stress-free time! I think it's amazing you were able to do a new stocking AND colorwork hats! It seems like hats might get more use, too...no problem wearing the same one every day, right? Anyway, they are fantastic hats and you should NOT feel any sort of guilt about not doing sweaters.

  5. Those hats are great! Any tips on making such fluffy pompoms? Mine don't turn out that way. Maybe I need to use more yarn? Thanks!

    1. Yup- lots of yarn. I used Clover Pom Pom makers and made sure to load them up with lots of yarn. I could hardly close them when I was done, and I was more than happy with the result. They are my fluffiest, most beautiful pom poms to date!

  7. I hope you will post a pattern for these. Love the way you have color coordinated stockings....hats...etc. When they grow up they will enjoy having these in the cedar chest for years to come. Your children are beautiful! Great pictures.

  9. A hat for a wee one gets so much more use than a little sweater! Every day (especially lately, in Michigan) you get to see your handknits in action. Love that they coordinate with the stockings. My aunt knit us mittens and hats when I was growing up (in the UP-- they saw a LOT of use!) and the smell of wool drying on radiators still smells like winter to me.
